Technology Women's Chess by Gert Innsry   In a competition sanctioned by the New York City Sports Commission, The US Chess Federation, and the Association of Chess Professionals, the American Women's Chess Champion and the French Women's Chess Champion will compete in New York City September 16-17 in the E-World Women's Chess Championship Series of 2004. Each match will be broadcast live over the internet. The winner will meet the Women's World Champion in a series of matches  in New York December 7-8 for the E-World title.

The American Champion and the French Champion are both Russian; the World Champion is Chinese. At a press conference May 14 at the Russian Samovar Restaurant, Irina Krush, the American Champion, and Almira Skripchenko, the French Champion, spoke about improving French-American friendship and making Women's Chess better known to the public. By broadcasting the matches move-by-move over the internet, they hope to show a wide audience the quality of women's play today. The commentary accompanying these matches will be in the three languages of the players involved: English, French and Chinese.

The host and sponsor of these events is China Communications Corp., affiliated with China's largest English-speaking online media company, China Daily. ChinaCom's business is to provide internet infrastructure to encourage qualified global businesses to do business with China. ChinaCom also provides on-line and off-line advertising and marketing opportunities to Chinese and global enterprises. The web platforms to be used in the broadcast of these chess matches have been developed by Axis 360, a New Jersey company,  and are being managed by DataPipe, which has a presence in the New York Metropolitan area.

China has been working closely with several other New York based companies to enhance its presence in the West and attract American business and capital. These efforts have all included a sports component to make it more visible, and a technology component to provide services, flexibility and communications. It is becoming the best information resource to learn how to do business securely with China.
