Technology Fuji Fine Pix S7000 by Dave Sear In the February 2004 issue of New York Stringer I reviewed the Fuji Fine Pix S5000.  The current review is a follow up to my earlier article where I found the Fuji S5000 10X optical zoom, digital camera to be easy to use and sharp, giving well saturated brilliant color photos easily enlargeable to eight by ten even at one megapixel.  For complete information please see that review.   The down side of this otherwise fine camera is that it is limited to just over three megapixels and the optical view finder is grainy and not very usable in bright light.  To compensate for the shortcomings of the viewfinder I have learned to take a lot of pictures, keep the good ones and delete the others.  This is one of the beauties of digital photography.

Liking the feel and the results of the Fuji S5000, I decided to take a look at the Fuji S7000, a very similar camera that did not have the limitations of the S5000.  The S7000 offers six megapixels and a bright, easy to see through viewfinder in addition to several other bells and whistles. The camera has a hot shoe for an external flash and a thread for a cable release in the shutter release button. The S7000 is considerably heavier and bigger then the S5000 and offers only 6X optical zoom.  With respect to color I did not find it as accurate as the S5000.  Although it produced rich and saturated pictures a deep purple became blue on the screen. The list price of the S7000 is $799 and the S5000 is $499.  For a detailed side-by-side comparison of the two cameras, digital camera resource page on the Internet does a fine job.  Also Steve’s Digicams can’t be beat as a source of review.

In need of a really fine digital camera I did my comparisons and ended up by purchasing the Fuji Fine Pix S5000.  I ordered it from BuyDig over the Internet where an initial phone call, to see if they had it in stock, turned out to be cordial. I was advised that ordering over the Internet would be faster.  I ordered it on a Monday morning and was promised four-day delivery.  The camera came in two days and the price was  $289 plus $12.95 for shipping by FedEx.

I’m enjoying the camera and pleased with the pictures.  Happy shooting.
